[Written August 10th at Stone House retreat with JIP]
I am so incredibly, ridiculously blessed today. As I was leaving to go to my new home in Carrboro, my dad called out to me to pop the hood of my car. It was pretty random and I was cutting close to my arrival deadline but it was no biggie to put the car back in park and let him check under the hood...for whatever he was looking for. Well Daddy check my oil to show me how it's done and saw that after only a few weeks from getting fresh oil the oil stick was very low. So he and my mom started running around frantically to get me more oil and back on the road without changing cars. It was so cute to see their team work. As soon as Daddy mentioned needing oil to me, it was out of nowhere Mummy appeared with a yellow canister saying "here I have some". It reminded me of this song by Bucky Covington called "A Father's Love". Part of the chorus goes: "He checked the air in my tires, The belts and all the spark plug wires, Said "When the heck's the last time you had this oil changed...I didn't hear it then but I hear it now. He was sayin 'I love you' the only way he knew how"
My heart was filled with love as I drove down the road to my new adventure with a fresh image of the true essence of my parents' love for me. Even though their words tell me regularly, their actions always provide tangible evidence of just how much I mean to them.
As I start JIP I am very very thankful and appreciative for my parents.
The best is yet to come,
~Adwoa
