Everyday People

I really like this song. I think because it's service trip and Habitat-y inspired. I'm fortunate this year to know people who's lives reflect exactly what this song is talking about. People on the giving and receiving end of this equation.  It's good to be reminded some times of how satisfying a good days work should be.

College kids turning twenty-one
And their senior year spring break was here.
They headed south but not for fun
Through thick and thin
 where the storms had been

It was hard
Fixing windows and shigles and doors
And tired never felt so good before

[Chorus:]
Everyday people are the ones who are making miracles
And it's beautiful
Everyday people lifting up the world
Like an answered prayer
I thank God they're there
They're the one's who care
Everyday people

Doctor said "Good News we caught it soon enough, we can clear this up"
But she's 30 and single with two kids to raise
Times are tough these days
So her friends made some calls and the word spread around
How her bills got paid she don't know how

[Chorus]

A little girl takes her Mama's hand
And walks inside saying "Please don't cry"
As the people who built this house just for them
Laugh through the tears as a family moves in

[Chorus]

-"Everyday People" by Reba McEntire and Carole King

“Habitat for Humanity is a perpetual motion miracle. Everyone who receives, gives—and everyone who gives, receives. If you want to live complacent and uninspired, stay away from Habitat. Come close to Habitat and it will change you and make you part of something that changes the world.”
–Randall Wallace (screenwriter of Braveheart)
I can't throw in the towel. There is too much at stake.

The best is yet to come,
