One of the ways for me to pay homage to my year is of course through song. So why not the artist who touches my heart best: Martina McBride.
I thank God for all I’ve been given
At the end of every day
I have been blessed
With so much more than I deserve
To be here with the ones
That love me
To love them so much it hurts
I have been blessed
We have five days left together in the house. Everyone is slowly cleaning and rummaging through what we own to prepare for "the transition". The house needs to be cleaned from top to bottom and all our stuff loaded in suitcases, boxes, and car trunks. The up side is that we are all lamenting together.
It's hard to write about the end of something that isn't over. So I won't. But I will offer this instead:
What I know now...
- living with 7 strangers is a lot of fun
- real life is better than "The Real World" although we definitely had our moments
- if you live with 7 friends, you should anticipate limited personal space
- "i love you, don't touch me"
- food is the greatest common denominator
- coffee is an upper, alcohol is a downer
- we all get by with a little help from our friends
- either speak your mind or hold your peace
- lentils and quinoa are pretty tasty
- Carrboro is still weird
- you can support someone in a lot of different ways
- never say never
- old movies are gems
- henna is multipurpose
- Jim Douglas leaves his Facebook open
- I still don't know what flax is :/
- the idea of parakaleo has changed my life
- books are great!
- cockroaches will never get any easier to deal with (there is one creeping around my room right now just waiting to jump out when I finally cut off the light)
- sometimes things just don't work out
- it's good to have movie buddies
- I never thought twice about the meat I was eating until I opened that darn booklet from PETA
- the present is the best gift you can give yourself because you can never get the here-and-now back
- I will keep writing :)
I'm eternally grateful for all the laughs that we shared together. I'm looking forward to what the future holds for us all.
The best is yet to come,
~Adwoa
