There is something about ants that gives me perspective. They are so small compared to humans. They are intelligent and have complex communication systems. Ants rely a lot on community. They all know their role and how that relates to the community as a whole. Every time I kill an ant I always wonder how many other ants just sensed that they lost a family member. I know that sounds weird but next time you kill an ant, wait a few seconds and see if another appears. They always do when I kill them, and it makes me sad to know they are looking for that missing one.
"The colonies are sometimes described as superorganisms because the ants appear to operate as a unified entity, collectively working together to support the colony." - Wikipedia
I always wonder if an ant is aware of its size. Do ants know that humans exist? With one swift move of my index finger I can change the entire course of an ants life. I can even end it if I chose. Do they know that we are out there?
I wonder these things and ponder them deeply. Then I think about humans and our desire to know "what else is out there?" or even better yet "are we alone?" Are we just ant size beings compared to something greater? Is there a force out there that can change the direction of our lives?
Some say yes, some say no. Does the thought scare you or comfort you? I'm not sure what the ants think but what do you make of it all?--now that you have a little perspective.
The best is yet to come,
