I don't meddle much in politics via public platforms. Mostly because things change every day and no party or politician is without fault. However, I do want to share this segment from Rachel Maddow for what she says in the middle around the 3 minute time mark (just past the "hero" joke) about the surrealness of the war in Iraq finally ending. I live a few hours away from Ft. Bragg and if I hadn't been watching tv that evening I would have no clue to this day that the war was officially over and all the troops are coming home.
"…It is a little surreal that [the war] is ending so quietly...It has not been the country's war. It has been the military's war...There has been a great split in the experience of our country...between the military bearing this huge burden for a solid decade and civilians at home, ya know, getting tax cuts...As the military marks this occasion with ceremonies and big home comings across the country…but in civilian life the end of the Iraq war just goes down as one world news story among many…"
The best is yet to come,
