A bird in hand is better than two in the bush.
I have been waiting for 5 days for Elton John tickets to go on sale at 10am EST. I thought I would use the same strategy I always use to get great seats. In hindsight, this strategy is basically greed. I check a couple options out before making a final purchase.
So this morning at exactly 10am, I did a test search to find the absolute best seats in the house. Then I searched for the ticket that I actually wanted...and it was available. Case closed time to seal the deal, right? Nope.
I went for the bird in the bush. 40 minutes later I'm still waiting to see if there are any tickets left to the concert at all. I'm in a virtual line of thousands of customers (phone line has been tied up all morning as well).
So as I sit here in virtual line, I have learned my lesson the hard way. The ticket that I had, now 60 minutes ago, will always be better than the imaginary ticket that I am waiting in line for now.
Lesson of the day: don't be greedy
The best is yet to come,

maybe I haven't really learned my lesson... at 11:45am I got those better seats!!!
ReplyDeletea bird in hand is better than 2 birds in the bush, that is unless you catch the 2 birds in the bush.
The choice to give up something you currently have to pursue something perceived to be (or even just hoped to be) better, even if it's just a little bit better, can be hard. The last time I went for the birds in the bush I ended up empty handed and sad in one fell swoop. Then I reasoned with myself that it wasn't meant to be.
ReplyDeleteP/S: I didn't know you liked Elton John. Enjoy the concert.
