2013: Year of Blessed Beginnings
I'm naming my year again! Like a paper with a strong thesis statement, naming the year gave me an anchor to keep returning to no matter what day or season I was in. Even if I was off the mark I had a goal and I had a sense of responsibility/commitment toward that goal.
Before 2012 ended I already knew what I'd name this year and I had a map of a few things I wanted to begin. I have some serious goals that I need to pray through but there are a few things I've already committed myself towards mentally.
2012 was a busy year full of marvelous activities. The unwritten motivation was LLYWD/YOLO...basically try new things for the sake of trying new things. This year I have a few things I would like to begin that are attached to long term goals. These things will have a ripple impact on at least the next 1 year but I think longer than that. "How can you know that already Adwoa?" you might ponder. Well for starters a few of the things on my list are talents that once I learn I won't be able to easily un-learn them.
JANUARY- begin learning to play the ukelele. Some of you know that I own a bass guitar named Jackson. It's such a hassle to plug him in to practice and I couldn't afford lessons for a while so I've never learned how to play my 80s funk. However, I had the brilliant idea right before Christmas while sitting at home on my computer that I could learn pretty quickly to play this tiny little thing that I can travel with as a "gateway" of sorts to picking up bass. The two instruments are more different than they are alike BUT in my weird little world mastering one will motivate me to take on a new challenge. Plus it's just cool to say I play uke. I already bought the ukelele and started learning the first week of January
MARCH- sign up for a classical dance class. I'm an awful dancer. There are many reasons why I'm awful but I won't focus on that now. I love performing arts and that includes watching dance. I have an EXTREME appreciation for the art of dancing but lack the skills myself. So why is this on the list you ponder? One day in the grocery store I heard a familiar song playing through the speakers. But something was different about the song or about me this time and I started dancing what resembled a waltz in the aisle. I happened to have on kitten heels that day so spinning around on the linoleum tile was effortless. In that moment I knew that I want to dance to this song at my wedding.
Beginnings yet to be assigned months:
- take a standardized test
- travel to a state/country that I have not visited before
I knew there was something missing from this post! A song. Currently I don't have a song that is jumping out at me like I did last year. In 2012, I had to stop the hurry (Alabama "I'm In A Hurry").
This year I just have to get my "long-term plans" engine revving...
and then... GET GOING!
If you know a song that might fit nicely onto my theme, please do share. Until then... love you all! Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it. Have an amazing 2013!
The best is yet to come,
~Adwoa
