One week ago I went to the movies with my family. Many who know me are surprised that I even went, but I'm glad I did. This is how I felt immediately afterwards:
I just got back from watching "12 Years A Slave" with my parents and sister. I should have trusted my gut and not gone. There are times when you just have to trust yourself and dig your head in the sand, ugh. The movie was incredible and the actors were top notch. All of them. You hated the characters you were supposed to hate and had sympathy for the characters with whom you were supposed to sympathize.
In this order:
I feel like I might vomit
My back hurts
I'd like a beer please
Part of me feels sad like crying but I don't think I'm going to let that happen
My final thought, and this only means something if you saw the movie, is that I wish he killed Patsy. I truly wish he had just killed her.
I don't even feel comfortable including my tagline...ugh
A week later after letting it settle, I thank God for who He created me to be and that my tension with holding the truth of slavery is that it breaks my heart far too much for me to handle. There are many injustices in the world but a few are simply beyond comprehension.
And for the record, I didn't drink that beer. Instead I watched old episodes of Sesame Street.
The best is yet to come,
