Broken Wing

So you all know that Martina McBride is my #2. If I ever met her I have two questions I'd like to ask 1) where do you go to church? 2) where did you find inspiration/motivation to direct so many of your songs toward advocating for domestic violence and child abuse?

Last night I found out that a middle school classmate of mine was murdered by her husband. She was stabbed to death outside of a Taco Bell/KFC in Durham. She left behind four children under the age of 8. I just celebrated a birthday and had the chance to turn 24. Her last year was 23.

It doesn't matter how well you know a person (I hadn't even thought about her since I left middle school) these things still mess you up.

This is how one of our classmates summed it up in a Facebook post:
RIP Amanda Magruder. Your death has haunted me all week, even though I haven't really known you since middle school. Domestic violence is so scary and real. Home should be the one place that you always feel safe. The place where you sleep and your babies sleep. Keep an eye and an ear out for all the people you love or hold dear. Sometimes you need help but don't have the strength to ask.
Please say a prayer today for Amanda's family. The situation is not resolving itself well from what I've heard.
The best is yet to come,
~Adwoa
And with a broken wing
She still sings
She keeps an eye on the sky
With a broken wing
She carries her dreams
Man you ought to see her fly
