Food for thought...I could probably spend a whole day thinking about just one of these questions...
If God had a name what would it be?
And would you call it to His face?
If you were faced with Him in all His glory
What would you ask if you had just one question?
What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make His way home
If God had a face what would it look like?
And would you want to see
If seeing meant that you would have to believe
In things like heaven and in Jesus and the Saints and all the prophets
What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Just trying to make his way home
Like a holy rolling stone
Back up to heaven all alone
Just trying to make His way home
Nobody calling on the phone
'cept for the Pope maybe in Rome
I listened to these lyrics by Joan Osborne a lot when I was walking the streets of NYC earlier this year. I have perfected my urban "don't bother me look" and I take a lot of pride in that. But then I started to think maybe not every stranger on the bus is meant to be treated as a threat to my existence. Maybe just maybe, if the timing is right, that stranger could be a blessing in my life. God what does your face look like? "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." 1 Genesis:27
