I woke up this morning around 4am and I couldn't fall back asleep. Around 6am I decided to go outside and read. No, I thought, a walk of fresh air and starlight would be even better...but then I started to really think about it...
My parents have lived in the same suburban neighborhood for over 20 years. I am no stranger here. But this week I was reminded that to be black and alone, even in your own neighborhood can make you the victim of a senseless crime.
So I put my walking shoes away, sat on our porch, and said a prayer for Trayvon Martin and his family instead.
The best is yet to come (because it has to get better than this),
