Cyberloafing

The archaic tradition of daylight savings time was not kind to me this year. I think the time change paired with the atypical "winter" we experienced confused every part of my natural rhythm (I think a wrote a post last year about hibernation when it was actually winter).

I was looking up the weather forecast the day after the time change and found even more depressing but incredibly accurate information.

"The good news is the sun will be up longer in the evenings, giving you more time to do a post-work run or play catch with the kids. The bad news is you'll temporarily throw your circadian rhythm out of whack...There's bad news for your boss, too. [Christopher] Barnes was part of a research team that concluded sleepy employees spend a lot more time surfing the web for personal reasons than well-rested workers do. It's a term coined cyberloafing, and the researchers found the Monday after the switch to DST is primetime for the practice.'When people are low on sleep, they are less effective in exerting self-control, and therefore especially vulnerable to the temptation of cyberloafing,' Barnes explains."
