There is in every person something that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in herself...
There is in you something that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. Nobody like you has ever been born and no one like you will ever be born again – you are the only one. And if you miss the sound of the genuine in you, you will be a cripple all the rest of your life, because you will never be able to get a scent on who you are.
--Dr. Howard Thurman
I stumbled upon that quote on a shirt of mine from undergrad. It jumped off the "page" today in a way it hasn't since 2006 when I first heard it. So many of my friends are stepping into great adventures in the next few weeks/months (new jobs, travel, new [musical] hobbies, changes in family dynamic, etc.) and I wanted to dedicate Dr. Thurman's quote to them and to myself.
Yesterday, May 28th, Dr. Maya Angelou passed away at her home in Winston-Salem. The word that has stuck with me all day is: INSPIRED. I hope that my life will be lived in a way that inspires even when my body has expired.
The best is yet to come,
