Be Your Authentic Self

"It takes courage to stand in your own truth, to be your authentic self, to live out your core values aligning your actions with a mind that is clear and a heart that is open and compassionate." -Dee Irwin

This was the process for getting our work placements:
  1. All 8 interns participated in 4 interviews each and ranked their preferences.
  2. Each organization ranked it's 4 candidates based on preferences and needs
  3. Our 2 program directors and chairman of the board matched interns based on all the rankings they received and what they felt would be the best fit to meet both the needs of the intern and the needs of the organization
Tomorrow is my first day of work at Orange County Habitat for Humanity!!!

There are so many things that I can write about looking forward to, but right now the most important thing on my mind is this: to be the authentic version of myself at all times

It too often happens that I settle into my work environment by isolating myself for the sake of getting work done. I skip out on group lunches and stay extra hours because it maintains the barrier of professional and impersonal. I make friends but I miss out on a lot of things that make me really happy. These traits are not inherently bad but I've noticed that I find myself wanting to interact more with my colleagues and gain personal insights into the lives of those around me. My goal for this job is not to blend the lines of personal and professional but rather be true to myself and be unafraid to get personal with people. I want my love for life and my compassion for people to be seen daily. I think my office and supervisor will provide me with the opportunity to grow in this area of my life.

The best is yet to come,
~Adwoa
