One of my housemates brought this phrase up at dinner tonight and it had me in stitches. The thoughts is that as we try to live simply and reduce our carbon imprint on the world, let's be reasonable. 8 people flushing 4 times a day is 32 flushes at 2.5 gallons each flush that is 80 gallons of water every day.
It sounds really funny but when you think about how much 80 gallons of water could accomplish it one day it might make you re-consider some things. The average person needs to consume 1/2 gallon of water each day. In our house we are flushing enough water to hydrate 160 people in a single day or 1 person for 160 days. Think about natural disaster victims, nations with dwindling resources, or the miners in Chile.
I can't promise that my sacrifice will be allocated to those who need these resources more, but I can do what is in my control to make a difference where I am.
So just consider: If it's yellow, let it mellow... if it's brown, flush it down
The best is yet to come,
