The Secret to My Success

(written November 3rd)

I've shared at least one blog posts about my progress towards healthy living ("I Can Go the Distance") but I forget that not everybody was with me in the beginning. So when you wonder how I've lost 20lbs in 10 months here are my motivators:

1. Carrie Underwood on tv. I know it sounds ridiculous. But if you don't have cable and the only place to watch tv is the gym, you'll take your tail down there and run while you watch. "Temporary Home" debuted in February and I made the decision to go that Saturday morning and I've been going consistently since then, even while on vacation.

2. Free gym membership. My apartment in Winston-Salem provided an on-site gym which is where I did step. Now I have a free membership to the YMCA (which is an amazing facility) so I'm taking advantage of it.

I have to go basically every day to win the competition. For the last 2 months I've gone 7 days a week just to stay among the top 5.


I still have a long way to go towards a healthy living and eating style. Some days I'm stellar, some days I'm not. But the difference this time around is that I'm not giving up.

My advice, take each day for what it is. Every day is another chance to do better than you did the day before. And it really is the little things that end up making a big difference.
